I want to know everyone's opinion on this issue.
Currently we are using a 1.13 server that is compatible with 1.8-1.15, and uses a plugin to simulate old combat mechanics of 1.8. Regardless of your vote, we will support 1.8-1.15 at server launch.
At this stage, it is still relatively easy to switch to a native 1.8 server, or fully embrace 1.9+ pvp.
If we do end up downgrading, we will not be able to utilize any new features, and it is likely that the server will be somewhat more buggy, especially for players running newer versions of Minecraft.
The reason I chose 1.13.2, was because I feel it is the responsibility of new servers to motivate players to use newer versions of Minecraft. And I also think that we can use modern Minecraft mechanics to build some truly epic game-modes.
Either way, I'd still like to know your opinion.
Due note that even if most people vote for 1.8, that does not mean that we will make a full-switch to 1.8, it is just a way for me understand how players feel about it and make a decision based on that information.
What is the difference between 1.8 and 1.13 with simulated old PVP?
On paper, the difference is not big, but some things are probably a little different. I think knockback might be slightly different. And hit boxes where fixed in 1.9, making them as sensitive as they should be, while they were bugged in 1.8. making them slightly bigger. Everything else should be the same with the reversal changes that we currently run.
